Football fans can travel in comfort to the Allianz Arena in Munich by train, underground or S-Bahn railway. For a long time, it was unclear whether the current Allianz Arena should be built at all. After FC Bayern Munich won the league again in 1997 and TSV 1860 Munich participated in the UEFA Cup, fans demanded a new stadium fit for football.
However, there was disagreement as to whether there should be a new stadium or whether the existing Olympic Stadium should be converted. After a long tug-of-war, those in charge finally agreed in January 2001 on a new building.
And on 21 October 2002, the time had come: for the official start of construction, the foundation stone floated down from the sky after an impressive laser show. Since its completion in spring 2005, the Allianz Arena has been one of the largest and most modern football stadiums in Europe. Since then, it has not only been the home ground of FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich, but also a venue for major events of all kinds.
The stadium is located in the north of Munich in the district of Fröttmaning, not far from the Fröttmaning underground station on the U6 line. A signposted footpath 1.1 kilometres long leads from the station to Munich's football landmark. The walking time from the underground to the stadium is around 15 minutes.
The membrane shell of the Allianz Arena is spectacular and unmistakable. It consists of 2,784 white honeycomb-shaped air cushions that can be illuminated in different colours depending on the event. Football fans and concertgoers sit a minimum of eight metres and a maximum of 39 metres from the edge of the pitch, giving them a ringside seat. When the roof is closed, the stadium can seat 70,000 spectators.

Travelling via München Hauptbahnhof

From München Hauptbahnhof, take the U4 or U5 in combination with the U6 to the Allianz Arena Munich:
- At München Hauptbahnhof, take the U4 underground line in the direction of Arabellapark from platform 2 on track 2.

Football fans and concert-goers flying to Munich will find countless shops at the gates and in the public areas of the two terminals at Germany's second-largest airport. From there, the Allianz Arena in Fröttmaning can be reached via a signposted cycle path that is about twelve kilometres long. For example, Call a Bike, Radius Bikes and Pedalhelden bikes are available in the area around München Hauptbahnhhof. The journey from the main railway station to the starting point of the cycle path at Marienplatz takes 8 to 10 minutes.
The route passes numerous attractions in the city of Munich, such as the State Opera House, the Theatine Church and the Hofgarten. It then passes through Munich's green oasis, the English Garden, and offers stops at numerous beer gardens. When you arrive at your destination, there are plenty of parking spaces for bicycles at the north and south bus parks by the stadium. Travelling to the Allianz Arena in Munich by car
Copy link to this sectionThe Allianz Arena can be reached by car via the A9 motorway and the München-Fröttmaning-Süd exit, or via the A99 motorway and the München-Fröttmaning-Nord exit. There is space for 9,800 cars in the four multi-storey car parks P1, P2, P3 and S1. Sufficient time should be allowed for parking and exiting after the end of the event. A parking space must be booked in advance online at the website of FC Bayern. The parking fee is € 24 per game.
