Clean stations are important to you and to us. For this reason, we are investing over 100 million euros this year in the cleanliness of our stations. We are taking various measures to ensure that travellers and visitors feel comfortable at stations throughout Germany.
Among other things, we clean our stations regularly as part of our maintenance cleaning programme. How often a station is cleaned depends on its size and the number of people travelling through it. Smaller stations with fewer visitors and travellers are cleaned at least once a week. At larger locations with many guests, on the other hand, cleaners are deployed daily. In addition to the maintenance cleaning measures, mobile cleaning teams are deployed throughout Germany. In the event of acute soiling, they provide additional cleaning services at stations. Our cleaning services also include the removal of graffiti and the maintenance of green areas and plants.

An additional comprehensive cleaning campaign was planned and implemented this year to make railway stations even cleaner. As part of a spring clean, around 700 stations across Germany were made fit for spring from the beginning of April to mid-May. The work at the stations included additional cleaning of station forecourts, stairs, lifts, platforms, furniture, glass surfaces and display cases. The cleaning campaign also focussed on removing graffiti and chewing gum. The aim was to visibly improve the appearance of the railway stations. To this end, station employees worked closely with DB Services staff, employees of station tenants and local authorities. One focus of the campaign was the more than 100 stations of the future across Germany that were modernised last year.

Building on the cleaning campaign, a cleanliness campaign will also take place at the stations in May. With a focus on social media, online video and digital OOH, five adverts on relevant pollution issues were shot for this purpose, which present the topic of waste in a humorous and very striking way. Take a look at the short films. In the form of a chewing gum, a broken beer bottle, a smoking cigarette butt, a burger packaging and an human-sized graffiti spray can, the rubbish in the commercials annoys travellers and visitors at stations. However, quick help is already on hand. The DB Reinigungsteam take care of the rubbish and remove it. Politely, but firmly. The cleanliness campaign is complemented by posters in display cases and on large surfaces as well as new rubbish bin stickers at selected stations, examples of which can be seen below.

If you notice soiling at the stations, you can report it via WhatsApp for selected stations in Germany and the vehicles of the S-Bahn Berlin and München. We will register your tip, stating the location and type of soiling. Our DB Reinigungsteam will then take care of the removal as quickly as possible. If the cleaning service is also available at your station, you will find the relevant WhatsApp number in the form of stickers on the rubbish bins at the station. Alternatively, you will find a reference to the DB Reinigungsteam, including their telephone number, on the website bahnhof.de on the page of the respective station under the heading "Advice and support".

At locations that do not have the WhatsApp service, you are welcome to report any soiling you notice to our station team. You can get in touch using our DB Smile station chatbot, by email to feedback@bahnhof.de or by calling 030 586020930 (Monday to Sunday from 07:00 - 22:00).

We do everything we can for clean railway stations. However, please help us by, for example, disposing of your rubbish in the rubbish bins provided, smoking only in the designated smoking areas or reporting any soiling you notice. 🫶for taking part!
Clean is more beautiful. Together for more cleanliness.
