Construction work on the Pirmasens Nord station began on 5 February 2024. By mid-2025, the quality of stay and accessibility of the station is to be improved as part of modernisation work.

The tactile floor guidance system is an important component in the barrier-free expansion of a railway station.

Pirmasens Nord station is one of the most important stations in the district of Südwestpfalz. Tourists can reach sights such as the Steinenschloss castle ruins from here. The Biebermühle swimming pool is just a few minutes' walk away.

The station is now being modernised as part of various construction measures. The planned work is focussed primarily on accessibility. Three new lifts and new platforms will provide travellers and visitors to the station with barrier-free access to the platforms in future. This will also make it easier to take bicycles with you. The pedestrian subway and staircases will also be renovated. A tactile guidance system will enable blind and visually impaired people to find their way around the station more easily once the work has been completed.

In addition, new lighting and modernised platform roofs will improve the quality of stay at the station. The modernisation of the station should be completed by early summer 2025.
