With the opening of the new S15 S-Bahn line, a place is emerging at Berlin Central Station that is more than just a transit route. A unified design concept combining architecture, sound and video art highlights the station’s role as a place of connectivity and movement while creating a public space for culture.
In the new S15 area, architecture and specially created sound and video art come together to form a holistic spatial experience for travelers and visitors.

Bright surfaces, a clear design language and generous spatial proportions create a welcoming atmosphere and make navigation easier. The selected materials and distinctive wall design give the new area its own unique identity.
Sound and Video Art as Part of the Spatial Experience

The sound installation is complemented daily from 3:00 p.m. by a large-scale video installation. The video art was also specifically designed to align with the architecture and overall design of the new S15 area. Together, sound and image create an audiovisual experience that shapes the atmosphere of the space and offers moments of reflection within the rhythm of everyday travel.
Design Inspired by Movement

Every day, people move through the station on different levels and in countless directions. This connectivity and movement form the guiding principle for architecture, sound art and video art alike.
In this way, the constant motion and the diverse connections of one of Europe’s largest interchange stations become directly tangible. All elements of the space interact with one another to create a coherent overall experience.
